The art textile work we present is the result of a deeply contemporary understanding of the craft. We weave by hand on low-warp looms, without mechanisation, using exclusively natural fibres and both simple and complex weave structures to explore the expressive possibilities of textiles beyond everyday use.
Drawing on the technical knowledge accumulated over all these years as textile designers and artisans, Francis and I have gradually entered the territory of textile art, through murals and textile pieces conceived specifically as artistic works.
As textile artists, we are especially interested in the relationship between experiences, memories, emotions and behaviours, and in how that invisible weave shapes the way we inhabit the world. Through woven fibre, our works raise questions about the functioning of the mind, the management of emotions and their impact on our personal and social relationships.
We seek for the piece not to remain merely a visual attraction, but to encourage a state of awareness, inviting the viewer to pause, observe themselves and ask how they are managing their memories and emotions, and how that management is shaping their present and future decisions and behaviour.
