Natural Fibres

Why We Weave with Natural Fibres

The Character of Each Fibre and How We Bring It into Our Textiles

As a luxury craft and quiet-luxury studio, we work exclusively with natural fibres, leaving aside synthetic fibres.

Natural fibres are the most suitable for the human body, the most pleasant to wear and, in general, the least costly for the environment. They allow us to create more exquisite pieces of higher quality and greater durability.

We generally acquire the different types of fibres already spun and dyed; we do not work as spinners or dyers. On some occasions, we weave with unspun natural fibres such as wool fleece, mohair, jute and coconut fibres, creating our own yarns for artistic works or for a specific detail.

We always check the quality of the fibres. We gather information about their origin, their certifications, with particular emphasis on the use of certified organic cotton and recycled cotton, and about their dyeing, in our case with European dyes. In addition, once the pieces are finished, we wash them to confirm the real behaviour of the fibre and the stability of the colour.

Below you can see the natural fibres we work with and the combinations most commonly used among them: merino wool, organic wool, alpaca, baby alpaca, cashmere, mohair, silk, linen, organic linen, hemp, cotton, organic cotton, recycled cotton, ramie, bamboo, soya, jute and coconut.

Cotton

Cotton is one of the earliest fibres used to make textiles, thanks to its exceptional qualities: it is soft, flexible, durable, absorbent, breathable and fully versatile: both fresh and warm. It is one of the few fibres that, depending on the thickness of the yarn, can be used both in summer, when fine and cool, and in winter, when thicker and warmer. We use it to weave scarves, shawls, foulards, bags, table linen, rugs, cushions, towels…

Certified Organic Cotton

Certified organic cotton is a fibre of exceptional quality. It undergoes no chemical treatments at any stage of cultivation or handling, from the plant to the fibre ready for weaving. There are three natural colours: ivory, beige and green. It is a soft, flexible and hypoallergenic fibre, suitable for people with sensitive skin or skin concerns. We use it to weave scarves, shawls, foulards, towels, baby booties…

Mercerised Cotton

Mercerised cotton is a fibre with a moderate sheen and great resistance to wear, qualities given by the mercerisation process. It is soft, flexible and durable, and allows for a wide range of colours. We use it to weave scarves, shawls, cushions, table linen, baby booties…

Recycled Denim Cotton

This cotton is a sustainable fibre, made in Spain from recycled jeans, organic cotton and Lenzing re-fibra, a fibre composed of 70% FSC-certified wood cellulose and 30% recycled cotton cellulose, without PET. It is soft, adaptable and very pleasant to use. It is also resistant and durable. Like the rest of the cotton fibres, depending on the thickness of the yarn it can be used both in summer, when fine and cool, and in winter, when thicker and warmer.

Cotton and Linen

Pieces woven from a blend of cotton and linen fibres bring together the advantages of both: softness, drape and adaptability, along with all the qualities of linen, resulting in pieces that are very pleasant and comfortable to use. We use this blend to weave scarves, foulards, shawls, table linen…

It has a series of qualities that make it unique: it is antibacterial, fungicidal and, thanks to its well-known resistance to heat, even to UV radiation, it is especially suitable for summer. We use it to weave foulards, shawls, table linen, cushions…

Alpaca

Alpaca comes from the Andes, in Peru. It is an exquisite fibre with a series of characteristics that give it exceptional quality: it is very soft, very warm, thermoregulating, does not retain odours and, because its structure has very few scales, it does not felt easily. Alpaca pieces provide a great deal of warmth while remaining light, and are very pleasant to wear. We use it to weave scarves, shawls, blankets…
