This course is an in-person, individual and intensive training programme taught by Ana, accredited Master Artisan and professional weaver specialised in low-warp looms.
It is designed both for people who want to start from scratch and for those who already have experience and wish to move forward in handweaving. Whether as a personal interest, as part of an artistic process or with a professional development approach.
If you are starting from the beginning, we will work through every stage, from design to finishing, including calculations, dressing the loom and weaving.
If you already know how to weave, you will be able to refine techniques, resolve specific questions and apply new knowledge, resources and advice to continue developing your textile work.
Dates and times are flexible. The course takes place in our artisan textile workshop in the Sierra de Segura, in Orcera, Jaén.
In this course you will learn how to weave by hand on a floor loom, from designing the piece to the final finishes. We will cover the necessary theory, although the learning will be mainly practical and directly on the loom. Throughout the course I will be with you at all times, adapting the pace to your learning process.
You can start from scratch or come with previous knowledge.
Ana y Francis Tejedores textile workshop, at Casa Forestal El Pilarillo, Orcera, Jaén.
Comfortable clothing, a pen, a pencil and paper.
The materials needed for the practical work are included, with a selection of natural fibres for the sample book and cotton/linen or wool for the scarf.
During the course you will weave a sample book and a scarf. If you need to work with a specific approach or objective, we can assess it beforehand.
The approximate duration is 30 to 32 hours, usually spread over five days. If you need a little more time to finish your pieces, it is included in the price.
During the course we will work through every stage of creating handwoven textiles on a floor loom, from designing the piece to the final finishes. We will combine the necessary theoretical explanation with extensive practice on the loom.
We will prepare two warps. The first will be used for the sample book, so that you can understand each stage from the beginning. The second will be a cotton and linen scarf, designed to reinforce what you have learned and allow you to take home a finished piece, pending only washing and pressing.
By the end of the course, you will have a complete understanding of the process and a solid foundation to design, calculate, prepare and dress the warp on your loom, weave and carry out different types of finishing on your pieces independently.
Dates are open and available throughout the year, and the timetable can also be agreed individually. Before making payment, please write to us or call us to arrange the date. The course takes place in the Sierra de Segura, near Orcera, Jaén, in our workshop at Casa Forestal El Pilarillo. It is a unique and peaceful natural setting, with access by paved mountain road and parking space.
Casa Forestal El Pilarillo was built around 1901 and was later rehabilitated and adapted by us as both a home and an artisan textile workshop. It is located just a few metres from stage 1 of the GR 247, “Los Bosques del Sur”, within the Natural Park.
Surrounded by nature, with a mountain climate and a deep sense of quiet, the workshop invites you to slow down. The views, the landscape and the calm accompany the learning process and form part of the experience, like a creative pause in time devoted to learning, observing, creating and weaving.
If you would like to take this course, we can agree the date and timetable with you before formalising the booking.
It is an in-person, personal and intensive training programme, organised with respect for each person’s learning pace.
