What the course involves
It is designed both for people who want to start from scratch and for those who already have experience and wish to develop their handweaving skills further, whether as a hobby, as part of an artistic practice or with a professional focus.
If you are starting from scratch, we will work through every stage, from design to finishing, including calculations, setting up the loom and weaving.
If you already know how to weave, you will be able to refine your techniques, resolve specific questions and apply new knowledge, resources and guidance to continue developing your textile work.
Dates and times are flexible. The course takes place in our artisan textile workshop in the Sierra de Segura, in Orcera, Jaén.
In this course you will learn to weave by hand on a rigid heddle loom, from designing the piece through to the final finishing. We will cover the necessary theory, although the learning will be mainly practical and carried out directly on the loom. I will be with you throughout the course, adapting the pace to your learning process.
You can start from scratch or come with previous weaving experience.

Comfortable clothing, a pen, pencil and paper.
All the materials needed for the practical work are included, with a selection of natural fibres for the sample collection and cotton/linen or wool for the scarf.
During the course you will weave a sample collection and a scarf. If you would like to work towards a specific idea or objective, we can discuss it beforehand.
The course lasts approximately 14 to 16 hours, normally spread over two days. If you need a little more time to finish your pieces, this is included in the price.
During the course we will work through every stage of creating handwoven fabric on a rigid heddle loom, from designing the piece through to the final finishing. We will combine the necessary theoretical explanation with extensive practical work on the loom.
We will set up two warps. The first will be used for the sample collection, allowing you to understand each stage from the beginning. The second will be for a cotton and linen scarf, designed to reinforce what you have learned and enable you to take home a finished piece, requiring only washing and pressing.
By the end of the course, you will have a complete understanding of the process and a solid foundation that will enable you to design and calculate your pieces, prepare and dress the warp on your loom, weave, and carry out different types of finishing independently.
Courses are available throughout the year, and both the date and timetable can be arranged individually. Before making payment, please write to us or call us to agree on a date. As this is a one-to-one course, we need to confirm availability first. Payment can be made through the website or directly at the workshop once the date has been confirmed.
If for any reason you are unable to attend on the agreed date, please let us know in advance. We can arrange a new date for your course or refund the amount paid.
We can provide information about accommodation near the workshop. There are several options in the area to choose from.
The course takes place in the Sierra de Segura, near Orcera, Jaén, at our workshop in Casa Forestal El Pilarillo. It is a unique and peaceful natural setting, accessible by a paved mountain road, with parking available.
Casa Forestal El Pilarillo was built around 1901 and later restored and adapted by us as our home and artisan textile workshop. It is located just a few metres from Stage 1 of the GR-247 “Los Bosques del Sur” trail, within the Natural Park.
Surrounded by nature, with a mountain climate and a sense of quiet, the workshop invites you to slow down. The views, the landscape and the calm accompany the learning process and become part of the experience: a creative pause in time devoted to learning, observing, creating and weaving.
