This is an in-person, individual and intensive course taught by Ana, an accredited Master Artisan and professional handweaver specialising in shaft looms.
It is designed both for people who want to start from scratch and for those who already have experience and wish to develop their handweaving skills, whether as a personal interest, as part of an artistic practice or with a professional focus.
If you are starting from the beginning, we will work through every stage, from design to final finishing, including the calculations, dressing the loom and the weaving itself.
If you already know how to weave, you will be able to refine techniques, resolve specific questions and apply new knowledge, resources and practical guidance to continue developing your textile work.
Dates and timetables are flexible. The course takes place in our artisan textile workshop in the Sierra de Segura, in Orcera, Jaén.
In this course you will learn to weave by hand on a table loom, from designing the piece to completing the final finishes. We will cover the necessary theory, although the learning will be mainly practical and carried out directly on the loom. I will be with you throughout the course, adapting the pace to your learning process.
You can start from scratch or come with previous knowledge.

Comfortable clothing, a pen, pencil and paper.
All the materials needed for the practical work are included, with a selection of natural fibres for the sampler and cotton/linen or wool for the scarf.
During the course you will weave a sampler and a scarf. If you need to work towards a particular idea or objective, we can discuss it beforehand.
The approximate duration is 26 to 28 hours, usually spread over four days. If you need a little more time to finish your pieces, it is included in the price.
During the course we will work through every stage involved in creating handwoven cloth on a table loom, from designing the piece to completing the final finishes. We will combine the necessary theory with extensive practical work on the loom.
We will prepare two warps. The first will be used for a sampler, so that you can understand every stage from the beginning. The second will be for a cotton and linen scarf, designed to reinforce what you have learned and allow you to take home a finished piece, with only washing and ironing remaining.
By the end of the course, you will have a complete understanding of the process and a solid foundation that will enable you to design, calculate and prepare a warp, dress your loom, weave and apply different types of finishing to your pieces independently.
Dates are flexible and available throughout the year, and the timetable can be arranged individually. Before making payment, please write to us or call us to agree on a date. As this is a one-to-one course, we need to confirm that the requested date is available. Payment can be made through the website or directly at the workshop once the date has been confirmed.
If for any reason you cannot come on the agreed date, please let us know in advance. We can look for a new date for your course or refund the amount paid.
We can advise you on accommodation close to the workshop. There are different options in the area for you to choose from.
The course takes place in the Sierra de Segura, near Orcera, Jaén, in our workshop at Casa Forestal El Pilarillo. It is a unique and peaceful natural setting, reached by a paved mountain road, with parking available.
Casa Forestal El Pilarillo was built around 1901 and later restored and adapted by us as our home and artisan textile workshop. It is located just a few metres from stage 1 of the GR 247, “Los Bosques del Sur”, within the Natural Park.
Surrounded by nature, with a mountain climate and silence all around, the workshop invites you to slow down. The views, landscape and stillness accompany the learning process and become part of the experience: a creative pause devoted to learning, observing, creating and weaving.
