Design

This baby alpaca and silk scarf, handwoven on a loom, has been woven by combining two techniques, twill and plain weave. This creates a line effect with gentle undulations at the selvedges, marking each change of technique. Together with the fibre, they give the fabric flexibility, drape and softness. It is a unique and distinctive baby alpaca and silk textile.

Colour

• Warp: rosy mauve. (The base on which we weave). 
• Weft : red. (The fibre we pass across the base).

Weave and warmth

• Composition: 60% baby alpaca, 40% silk.
• Feel: very soft and pleasant to wear.
• Texture: it has a light texture.
• Breathability: high; it combines two breathable fibres.
• Warmth: high; suitable for cold areas or people who feel the cold easily.

Fibres

• Alpaca.

  Alpaca comes from the Andes in Peru. It is an exquisite fibre with qualities that give it exceptional quality: it is very soft, very warm, thermoregulating, does not retain odours and, because its structure has very few scales, it does not felt easily. Alpaca pieces provide a great deal of warmth while remaining light, making them very pleasant to wear.

• Silk.

Silk is a sophisticated fibre: soft, strong and durable, with an unmistakable satin sheen. It is breathable and has thermoregulating properties, making it especially suitable for keeping warmth close to the skin, particularly around the neck. It is very versatile depending on how it is worn, and is recognised as a noble, high-quality fibre.

Finishes

• Stitching: hand-sewn running stitch on the first and last threads to prevent the fabric from unravelling.
• Thread finishing: the weft ends are sewn in by hand with a needle at the selvedges, avoiding joining knots in the fabric.
• Fringes: knotted.
• Washing: a mano con jabón natural para verificar la calidad de la fibra y la medida final.   En el primer lavado las fibras se recolocan y el tejido toma sus medidas finales. Después con los siguientes lavados a mano, no encoge más.
• Ironing: hand-steamed to enhance its finishes, drape and texture.
• Brushing: brushed by hand to give it an even softer, more pleasant feel.
