Design

This handwoven baby alpaca and silk scarf has been woven by combining two structures, a festoon variant and plain weave, creating a line effect with subtle undulations along the selvedges that mark each change of structure and, together with the fibre, add flexibility, drape and softness. It is a unique and singular baby alpaca and silk textile.

Colour

• Warp: pink mauve. (The base on which we weave). 
• Weft: dark lilac. (The fibre we pass across the base).

Fabric and warmth

• Composition: 60% baby alpaca 40% silk.
• Feel: very soft and pleasant to wear.
• Texture: light texture.
• Breathability: high, as it combines two breathable fibres.
• Warmth: high, suitable for cold areas or for people who feel the cold easily.

Fibres

• Alpaca.

  Alpaca comes from the Andes, Peru. It is an exquisite fibre with a series of characteristics that give it exceptional quality: it is very soft, very warm, thermoregulating, does not retain odours, and its structure, with very few scales, means it hardly felts. Alpaca pieces provide a great deal of warmth while remaining lightweight, and they are very pleasant to wear.

• Silk.

Silk is a sophisticated, soft, strong and durable fibre, with a satin sheen that makes it unmistakable. It is breathable and has thermoregulating properties that make it very suitable for retaining warmth next to the skin, especially around the neck, while remaining highly versatile depending on how it is worn. It is a noble fibre of recognised quality.

Finishes

• Stitching: hand-sewn running stitch on the first and last threads to prevent the fabric from unravelling.
• Thread finishing: weft ends are manually worked back into the selvedges with a needle to avoid joining knots in the fabric.
• Fringes: knotted.
• Washing: hand washed with natural soap to verify the quality of the fibre and the final measurements. In the first wash, the fibres settle and the fabric reaches its final size. With subsequent hand washes, it does not shrink further.
• Ironing: hand finished with steam to enhance its finishes, drape and texture.
• Brushing: brushed by hand to give it an even softer feel and make it more pleasant to wear.
