Cotton and linen placemat. Piece 1

Design

We have woven this cotton and linen placemat in a variation of plain weave, creating a fabric with a subtle texture and a soft handle that is very pleasant to touch. The ends are overlocked so the fabric does not unravel, and they have a reinforced machine-stitched finish so it can withstand machine washing without any problem. It has already been washed and ironed.

Colour

It has the same colour in both directions.

• Warp: multicolour in warm tones. (The base on which we weave). 
• Weft: light pink and dark pink. (The fibre we pass across the base).

Fabric 

• Composition: 60% cotton, 40% linen.
• Handle: soft.
• Texture: medium texture.

Fibres

• Cotton.

Cotton is one of the earliest fibres used to make textiles, thanks to its exceptional qualities: it is soft, flexible, durable, absorbent, breathable and completely versatile, either fresh or warm. It is one of the few fibres that, depending on the thickness of the yarn, can be used both in summer, when fine and fresh, and in winter, when thicker and warmer.

• Linen.

Linen is an extraordinary noble fibre, used since ancient times. It is a comfortable and elegant fibre with many applications in both fashion and the home. It has a series of characteristics that make it incomparable: it is antibacterial, fungicidal and highly resistant to heat, even to UV radiation, which makes it especially suitable for summer.

Finishes

• Stitching: in this case it has a machine overlock stitch to prevent fraying, concealed by the hem.
• Thread ends: the weft threads at the selvedges are tucked in by hand with a needle to avoid knots or joins in the fabric.
• Fringes: it has no fringes.
• Washing: hand-washed with natural soap to verify the quality of the fibre and the final measurement. In the first wash, the fibres settle and the fabric takes on its final dimensions. With subsequent hand washes, it will not shrink further.
• Ironing: hand-ironed with steam to enhance its finishes, drape and texture.

• Technique: handwoven in a plain-weave variation on a non-mechanised loom.
• Measurements: 35 cm x 50 cm. (Fringes included)
• Origin: made by us in Spain.
• Unique piece.

Presentation

It is delivered in a reusable cotton fabric bag, perfect for storing the piece and keeping it immaculate when not in use.
