Design

We have handwoven this mercerised cotton and silk scarf by combining plain weave with random twill lines along the fabric, using very fine yarn to achieve a strong and striking pattern. It is a lightweight fabric that provides high warmth when worn close to the skin.

Colour

We have chosen two combined colours, timeless and easy to wear:

• Warp: natural white. (The base on which we weave).
• Weft: natural white and dark red. (The fibre we pass across the base).

Fabric and warmth

• Composition: 40% mercerised cotton, 60% silk.
• Feel: very soft, with a beautiful drape.
• Texture: light texture, although warm when worn close to the skin.
• Breathability: high, thanks to the combination of two breathable fibres.
• Warmth: medium to high, suitable from autumn to spring.

Fibres

• Silk.

  Silk is a sophisticated, soft, strong and durable fibre, with a satin sheen that makes it unmistakable. It is breathable and has thermoregulating properties, making it especially suitable for keeping warmth close to the skin, particularly around the neck. It is a noble fibre of recognised quality. Our silk is spun slightly thicker, which makes it fresh or warm depending on how it is worn, with a feel that is different from industrial silk.

• Mercerised cotton.

Cotton is one of the earliest fibres used to make textiles because of its exceptional qualities: it is soft, flexible, durable, absorbent, breathable and completely versatile, fresh or warm depending on the yarn. It is one of the few fibres that, depending on the thickness of the yarn, can be used in summer when fine and cool, or in winter when thicker and warmer. Mercerised cotton undergoes a specific treatment that gives it a moderate sheen and extra resistance to wear and abrasion.

Finishes

• Stitching: hand-worked hemstitching on the first and last threads so the fabric does not unravel.
• Weft ends: manually woven in with a needle at the selvedges to avoid knots in the fabric.
• Fringes: short, neat and grouped with the hemstitching.
• Washing: hand washed with natural soap to check the quality of the fibre and the final measurements. In the first wash, the fibres settle and the fabric reaches its final size. After subsequent hand washes, it does not shrink further.
• Ironing: hand pressed with steam to enhance the finish, drape and texture.

• Technique: handwoven using a combination of plain weave and a twill variation on a non-mechanised loom.
• Measurements: 37.5 cm x 165 cm. (fringes included).
• Origin: made by us in Spain.
• Unique piece.
