Handwoven merino wool scarf, Clematis. This scarf from the Clematis collection is comfortable, flexible and warm. One of its wool yarns has an irregular spin that gives it volume and an almost cotton-like feel. It is inspired by clematis seeds, which fly wherever the air takes them; it is a very soft and breathable scarf. Like all our scarves, we have woven it by hand, and in this case with a very different design, leaving fringes along both long sides to create a relaxed, distinctive and playful look.

Design

This handwoven merino wool scarf is inspired by clematis seeds, carried wherever the air takes them. Its design evokes the shape of these seeds, with fringes running along both long sides; when wrapped around the neck, the fringes move and seem almost to float.

Colour

We have chosen several colours to create a cheerful, balanced blend that is easy to combine:
  • Warp: blue and lilac. (The base on which we weave). 
  • Weft: sky blue and pink. (The fibre we pass across the base).

Weave and warmth

  • Composition: 100% merino wool in two yarn thicknesses to achieve a very specific feel.
  • Feel: very soft, with a flexible body, almost cotton-like.
  • Texture: it has a thick texture, so it is warm without feeling heavy.
  • Breathability: high, a natural characteristic of wool fibre.
  • Warmth: high, making it suitable for daily use in autumn and winter.

Fibres

  • Merino wool.

Merino wool is a fibre obtained from sheep’s fleece. There are different types of wool depending on the breed of sheep; the finest quality comes from merino sheep. It is a very soft, flexible, breathable and warm wool that holds colour beautifully.

Finishes 

  • Stitching: hand-sewn running stitch on the first and last threads to prevent the fabric from unravelling.
  • Finishing of weft ends: done manually with a needle at the selvedges, avoiding knots where threads are joined in the fabric.
  • Fringes: along the full length of both sides. The base fringes are knotted to bring rhythm and movement.
  • Washing: hand washed with natural soap to check the quality of the fibre, the dyeing and the final measurements. In the first wash, the fibres settle and the fabric reaches its final size. With subsequent hand washes, it does not shrink further.
  • Pressing: hand pressed with steam to enhance the finish, drape and texture.
