Description

Design

Merino wool and bamboo kimono handwoven on a loom. This kimono was designed jointly with Olivia Aranda to reflect the idea we wanted to convey: the waters of the Guadalquivir breaking into the olive-grove landscape of Jaén like a paradise. We wove it in a complex variation of undulating twill and used knotting and high-warp loop techniques in the most textured and voluminous areas of the fabric, on the front and back of the kimono. The result is an exceptional and unique design as a whole.

Colour

We chose a natural tone as the base for the high-warp work carried out on part of the front and back.

• Warp: natural white. (The base on which we weave). 
• Weft: natural white, together with green and blue tones. (The fibre we pass across the base).

Weave and warmth

• Composition: 60% merino wool, 38% bamboo, 1% mohair (as accents in the representation of the water).
• Feel: very soft, dense and pleasant to wear.
• Texture: it has a medium/thick enveloping texture.
• Breathability: high, both bamboo and the organic cotton lining are breathable.
• Warmth: very high, suitable for cold areas or people who feel the cold easily.

Fibres

• Bamboo.

Bamboo is a plant fibre, soft and durable. It has exceptional qualities for garments worn close to the skin. In addition to its softness, it is flexible, absorbent, breathable, antifungal and antibacterial, making it very suitable for sensitive skin.

• Merino wool.

Wool is a fibre obtained from the fleece of sheep. There are different types of wool depending on the breed; the highest quality comes from merino sheep. It is very soft, flexible, breathable and warm, and retains colour beautifully.

• Certified organic cotton.

Certified organic cotton is an exceptional-quality fibre. It is not treated with chemicals at any stage, from cultivation and handling of the plant to its transformation into fibre for weaving. There are three natural colours: ivory, beige and green. It is soft, flexible and hypoallergenic, ideal for people with sensitive skin or skin concerns.

Finishes

• Thread ends: weft ends are manually worked into the selvedges with a needle to avoid knots in the fabric.
• Fringes: no fringes; the lower edges have been machine overlocked with lower hems hand sewn.
• Making: cut and made in our workshop. It has shoulder reinforcement so it does not lose its shape. Sleeve hems are hand sewn. It is lined with certified organic cotton, shaped and made to measure, with the joining seams also hand sewn around the entire perimeter of the lining.
• Washing: hand washed with natural soap to verify the quality of the fibre and the final measurements. During the first wash, the fibres settle and the fabric reaches its final dimensions. After subsequent hand washes, it does not shrink further.
• Ironing: hand steamed to enhance the finish, drape and texture.
• Brushing: brushed by hand to give it an even softer and more pleasant feel.
