Recognition from La Pinacothèque Museum

Recognition for artistic excellence by La Pinacothèque Museum

La Pinacothèque Museum in Luxembourg, through the 2023 edition of the Luxembourg Art Prize, has once again recognised the artistic excellence of the works presented, as it did in the previous 2022 edition. I feel that we are moving in the right direction in this recent stage of our work within the more contemporary field of textile art. We will dedicate a blog article to each of the recognised works. The works assessed were: ROOMS OF THE MIND, GLIMPSES OF CONSCIOUSNESS PIECE 1 AND PIECE 2, and THE TIME OF MIST PIECE 1 AND PIECE 2.

All of them share a common theme and the same intention.

I am fascinated by the way our mind works. How the emotions we feel and the behaviours we develop generate different social and personal responses. Through the different textile fibres and low-warp loom techniques that I master, I want to convey this idea to the viewer and take them into an imaginary space where they can think and question the root of these responses in their relationships with their surroundings, with others and with themselves. I want to share and reveal these ideas and thoughts that move me and make me reflect in my daily life, returning again and again to the immensity of the different ways in which our mind functions, so that the viewer may also consider them and respond.

I would like the viewer, through my work, to feel drawn in, to pause, analyse and reflect on the subject I am presenting: how our experiences and our social and personal responses, through behavioural and physical connections, condition our present and our future, our personal and collective world, and even our mental and physical health. How the world of emotions generated by experiences from the past, from the present or even from future projections conditions our state of mind, leading us to make decisions, or not to make them, which will inevitably shape our present and our future. How we manage these memories, and how we store or evoke them, sometimes from the deepest subconscious, which may prevent us from moving forward or, on the contrary, help us to do so.

At the same time, through my work I seek to dignify the use of natural raw materials such as textile fibres, and the use of handweaving on low-warp looms as a means of artistic expression and as an activator of consciousness.
